ABOUT THE PROJECT

The project, completed in May 2015, aimed at exploring the impact of 3D printing on the apparel industry by undertaking a thorough study of the process of 3D printing, different methods of 3D printing garments, present scenario and future scope of 3D printing in global and Indian market, work of major international fashion designers and brands making 3D printed garments and accessories, opportunities, risks and challenges presented by 3D printing in apparel industry and finally, potential users’ acceptance of 3D printed garments.

3D Printing would affect the apparel industry in the spheres of production & manufacturing, employment & work, the international political economy and also have significant environmental, creative and legal impact.

3D printed garments still have a long way to go before they will be ready for the mass market but its greatest contribution would be in changing how consumers think about what they buy and their role in the production process – greater transparency in apparel production and restructuring of the manufacturing process.
